Virtual Journeyman Continuing Education Course (VJCEC) requirements and conduct policy

In an effort to offer as many continuing education courses as possible, the Des Moines Electrical Apprenticeship Training Trust has created the following requirements and policy.

Technical Requirements:

Participants must have the following in order to participate in any virtual training courses.

1. Stable internet access, webcam, microphone and headset.

• An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE). Minimum bandwidth is 600kbps (up/down) and recommended is 1.5 Mbps (up/down). Check your Internet bandwidth using www.Speedtest.com
• A webcam - one which is built-in to your computer or one that connects to your computer via USB.
• A microphone – built-in to your computer or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth.
• Headphones/earphones/headset – Even if your laptop or desktop has speakers, you must plug in a headset so that the sound from the speakers does not cause an echo in the WebEx meeting. Any headset with a 3.5mm plug should plug in.

2. You must be familiar with video conferencing to be able to participate in the class.      

           Examples are:

• Be able to download WebEx and join the meeting
• Resolve basic video conferencing issues; audio, microphone, video, connection, etc.
• Mute or unmute your microphone to ask/answer questions
• Participate in online quizzes/tests
• Use the chat function in WebEx

Virtual Journeyman Continuing Education Course (VJCEC)

Participant Policy

The Des Moines Electrical Apprenticeship Training Trust has been approved by the Iowa Electrical Examining Board (IEEB) to hold online courses.  The requirements set forth by the IEEB are designed to ensure that the courses offered are equivalent to in-person training.  Therefore, in order to assure that we are able to continue offering these courses the trustees have put in place the following policy.

1. I acknowledge that my participation in a VJCEC may be recorded by the Des Moines Electrical Apprenticeship.

2. Only registered participants will receive credit for attending.

3. All participants must have a functional webcam, microphone, and stable internet capable of on-line video conferencing.

4. All participants must remain in-sight of their camera for the duration of the class, with the exception of instructor authorized break periods.

5. All participants must register for the VJCEC individually and have their own equipment.  No group sessions from one account or device.

6. All participants shall remain focused and engaged in the class at all times.  No other programs are allowed to be running in the background; Netflix, YouTube, etc.  No use of TVs, radios, video games, etc. during the class.

7. You must attend all sessions of the course to receive credit.

8. If you lose video connection, fall asleep, disconnect or otherwise do not participate to the instructor’s satisfaction – NO credit will be given for the course.

9. No audio only or phone in participants.

      10. Cellphones are not allowed to be used as your video conferencing device .  You must use a PC or Mac computer, Ipad, Chromebook or Microsoft Surface device for the class.  

Any blatant or obvious disregard for the participation requirements of the VJCEC will result in no credit given for the class and a 6 month ban from any additional VJCECs.

By submitting this form, I hereby acknowledge that I have read, understand and can achieve the aforementioned technical requirements. Furthermore, I agree to the participant policy for on-line continuing education courses. I also understand that the above rules are a guide and not all inclusive, therefore I am expected to conduct myself in a professional manner at all times while participating in a virtual classroom. I further understand that if I fail to follow the policy my VJCEC privileges will be suspended. I further indemnify and hold harmless the Des Moines Electrical Training Trust for any wrongdoing on my part, or that of another participant, while attending a virtual class.
